Upstate HomeCare is a Gold Corporate Sponsor of the Syracuse Take Steps Walk for Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation! Plus, we are again supporting this year’s Pediatric Honored Hero, 4th grader, Kennedy Muench and her team “Kennedy’s Pouchettes”! Kennedy was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis at the age of 7. When medication & treatments didn’t work, she underwent surgery to remove her large intestine. They created a j-pouch and placed an ileostomy. Three months later, she was able to have her ileostomy reversed and connected to the j-pouch. Since then she has been able to live a healthy normal life and participate in a number of activities like dancing and sports! She is also mentoring other children dealing with this disease.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are inflammatory bowel diseases that cause chronic inflammation and damage in the GI tract. Inflammation impairs the ability of affected GI organs to function properly.
